چکیده

Domain decomposition (DD) methods are important techniques for designing parallel algorithms for solving partial differential equations. Since the decomposition is often performed using automatic mesh partitioning tools, one can in general not make any assumptions on the shape or physical size of the subdomains, especially if local mesh refinement is used. In many of the popular domain decomposition methods, neighboring subdomains are not using the same type of boundary conditions, e.g. the Dirichlet-Neumann methods invented by [2], or the two-sided optimized Schwarz methods proposed in [3], and one has to decide which subdomain uses which boundary condition. A similar question also arises in mortar methods, see [1], where one has to decide on the master and slave side at the interfaces. In [4], it was found that for optimized Schwarz methods, the subdomain geometry and problem boundary conditions influence the optimized Robin parameters for symmetrical finite domain decompositions, and in [5], it was observed numerically that swapping the optimized two-sided Robin parameters can accelerate the convergence for a circular domain decomposition. We study in this paper two-sided optimized Schwarz methods for a model decomposition into a larger and a smaller subomain, to investigate which Robin parameter should be used on which subdomain in order to get fast convergence. We consider the model problem

Optimized algebraic interface conditions in domain decomposition methods for strongly heterogeneous unsymmetric problems

Under classical assumptions on the coefficients of the problem (e.g. η − 1 2divb > 0 a.e. in Ω) the matrix A in (2) is definite positive. We solve problem (2) by means of an Optimized Schwarz Method: such methods have been introduced at the continuous level in [4], and at the discrete level in [5]. We design optimized interface conditions directly at the algebraic level, in order to guarantee r...

Optimized Schwarz Methods without Overlap for the Helmholtz Equation

The classical Schwarz method is a domain decomposition method to solve elliptic partial differential equations in parallel. Convergence is achieved through overlap of the subdomains. We study in this paper a variant of the Schwarz method which converges without overlap for the Helmholtz equation. We show that the key ingredients for such an algorithm are the transmission conditions. We derive o...

Convergence Behavior of a Two-Level Optimized Schwarz Preconditioner

Optimized Schwarz methods form a class of domain decomposition algorithms in which the transmission conditions are optimized in order to achieve fast convergence. They are usually derived for a model problem with two subdomains, and give efficient transmission conditions for the local coupling between neighboring subdomains. However, when using a large number of subdomains, a coarse space corre...

Optimized Schwarz Waveform Relaxation and Discontinuous Galerkin Time Stepping for Heterogeneous Problems

We design and analyze a Schwarz waveform relaxation algorithm for domain decomposition of advection-diffusion-reaction problems with strong heterogeneities. The interfaces are curved, and we use optimized Ventcell transmission conditions. We analyze the semidiscretization in time with discontinuous Galerkin as well. We also show two-dimensional numerical results using generalized mortar finite ...

An optimized Schwarz algorithm for the compressible Euler equations

In this work we design new interface transmission conditions for a domain decomposition Schwarz algorithm for the Euler equations in 2 dimensions. These new interface conditions are designed to improve the convergence properties of the Schwarz algorithm. These conditions depend on a few parameters and they generalize the classical ones. Numerical results illustrate the effectiveness of the new ...
